You may have heard about Facebook, Twitter or MySpace from your excited teenager but never really considered it as an important marketing tool.
Known as social media sites, these websites are the latest in the series that began with simple message boards and chat rooms.
You should ideally use social media as a way of getting to know your clients better.
By becoming a member and contributing to the general discussion, you can understand the kind of problems your prospective clients face. You could offer suggestions and solutions that would help out other members. Slowly you can establish yourself as an expert in your area of expertise – this will give you a good opening to mention your home-based business.
Some of the members may actually try out your product and if they are satisfied, you can be sure that news about your product will really spread on these social media sites.
In fact, you can request prospective customers who are not able to make up their mind about your product to speak to some of the satisfied customers on any of the social media sites and get answers to their questions.
Be subtle in your approach!
However, you have to remember to be as subtle as possible in your approach.
Do not try to become a member of these sites with the sole purpose of making a sales pitch; do not post any advertisements or press releases on these sites. Else you may find your idea actually backfiring on you with members actually avoiding mentioning your business and your products.
